Consumer expectations on their personal saving possibilities

Personal saving possibilities are perceived as weaker than usual

Many consumers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area believe that they will be able to save in the next year, even though their confidence in their personal saving opportunities has clearly weakened from the previous year. In the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in February 2023, the balance figure describing personal saving possibilities perceived by consumers was +42.5, compared to +60.6 in the previous year. However, consumers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area were slightly more confident towards their personal saving possibilities than the national average (+41.0). In the 2020s, the balance figure for personal saving possibilities has varied quite a lot in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+35.1 – +61.4). In other words, the figures for January 2023 are slightly closer to the lower end of the range than to the higher end, compared to the long-term average.
