Migration gain decreased in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and increased in the KUUMA municipalities
In October–December, there was a migration gain of 2,150 people in the Helsinki region, which is approximately 1,670 less than in the corresponding period the previous year. In Helsinki, migration gain shrank close to zero, whereas at the end of the previous year there was a migration gain of 1,200 people. Migration gain in Vantaa also decreased considerably down to 220 people. Migration gain for Espoo remained practically at the level of October–December of the previous year at 740 people. However, migration gain in the KUUMA municipalities grew rapidly to 960 people. Finland outside the Helsinki region had a migration gain of up to 3,200 people in October–December.
According to preliminary data, the total migration gain for the Helsinki region was nearly 5,800 (-36%) residents less in 2020 than in the previous year. Helsinki Metropolitan Area migration gain was approximately half of that of the previous year. The KUUMA municipalities, on the other hand, obtained nearly twice the migration gain compared with the preliminary data for the previous year.
