Migration gain from foreign nationals decreased in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area
In October–December, approximately 2,400 more foreign nationals moved to the Helsinki region than away from it. The migration gain from foreign nationals decreased only slightly (-90 people) compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
In October–December, the migration gain from foreign nationals totalled 690 people (-160) in Helsinki and 540 (-110) people Vantaa. The decrease in migration gain in the fourth quarter was specifically due to an increase in the number of people leaving. Espoo gained approximately 700 (+70) people at the end of the year and the KUUMA municipalities 420 (+78), with the number of immigrants growing more than that of emigrants compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
During the year, the Helsinki region obtained a migration gain of foreign nationals of more than 10,000 people, which is 1,400 people less than in the previous year. Foreign nationals migrate to the Helsinki region from other parts of Finland as well as from abroad.
