The total volume of railway freight traffic increased slightly in 2022
The volume of VR’s freight traffic at stations in Helsinki increased by approximately 2 per cent in 2022. Incoming freight volume grew by 4 per cent and outgoing freight volume decreased by 58 per cent from the corresponding period in the previous year. Outgoing goods made up one per cent of all freight traffic.
In October–December, the volume of freight traffic at Helsinki stations increased by one per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. The volume of freight traffic in the third quarter was 374,550 tonnes. Outgoing goods only made up approximately 0.3 per cent of all freight traffic.
Volume of freight traffic continued to grow in 2022
The volume of freight traffic by VR at stations in Helsinki reduced clearly after 2008 but took an upward turn in 2017. The volume of freight traffic started to decline again in early 2020, but it took an upturn in 2021, and the growth continued in 2022.
