Intentions to buy owner-occupied apartments

Interest in home buying has increased slightly

The share of respondents planning to buy an owner-occupied apartment in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area turned to a clear decline in the summer of 2022, but the sharp decline turned to a slight increase in early 2023. In spring 2022, more than one in five consumers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area considered buying a home. This share decreased in the summer and autumn of 2022, most likely as a result of the rising interest rates and the uncertain economic situation. Now when consumers’ views on economic development have become more positive, interest in home buying has also increased slightly. In February 2023, 15.5 per cent of respondents in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and 11.2 per cent in the entire country considered buying a home. Nationwide, the share of respondents who are considering home buying is still the lowest in four years.
