Number of passengers on international passenger ships still down
The travel restrictions decreased the number of ship passengers considerably in 2020. There were approximately 4.7 million international ship passengers in Helsinki’s harbours, a decrease of 63 per cent compared with the previous year. In October–December, the number of passengers decreased by 77 per cent compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
The number of ship transport passengers have been growing
The number of international ship passengers grew steadily until 2018, when it stalled. Passenger volumes started to increase again after the first months of 2019. The year 2020 was exceptional due to the COVID-19 crisis. There were 45 per cent fewer passengers at Helsinki’s ports than there were 10 years ago.
