Proportion of good air quality decreased in the Helsinki metropolitan area

In April–June, air quality was worse in comparison to the previous year at the Tikkurila, Leppävaara and Mannerheimintie measurement points. The percentage of good air quality results decreased by more than 10 percentage points at all measuring points in comparison to the same period in the previous year. At the same time, the proportions of satisfactory, passable and poor air quality increased. Air quality was worse in May in particular.

In April–June, the average periods of good air quality totalled 61 percent in Tikkurila, 60 per cent in Leppävaara and 34 per cent on Mannerheimintie. During other periods, the air quality was mainly satisfactory. Poor results accounted for 3.5 per cent of the total time in Leppävaara, 1.0 per cent in Tikkurila and 1.6 per cent on Mannerheimintie.

At the Mannerheimintie measuring point, air quality has mostly been satisfactory in recent years, but last year the proportion of good air quality surpassed the proportion of satisfactory air quality. In Leppävaara and Tikkurila, the air quality has been good for most of the time since 2015. Street dust decreases air quality especially in the spring.
