Unemployment rate of women grew sharply from last year

According to the Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate among women living in the Helsinki region was 1.8 percentage points higher in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. At the same time, the male unemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points. Nationally, the male unemployment rate grew considerably more compared with the Helsinki region, but growth in female unemployment was slower.

In October–December 2020, the unemployment rate was 7.1 per cent for women and 6.9 per cent for men in the Helsinki region. In all of Finland, the unemployment rate was 7.0 per cent for women and 7.7 per cent for men.
